Beginner Knitting (Age 15 & Up) Learn the basics of knitting including, casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, garter and stockinette stitch, increasing, decreasing, binding off, reading a pattern. Choose your project-dishcloth, scarf, headband. List of materials will be provided once registered.

Beginning Pottery Wheel Throwing (Ages 18 & Up) This course is a great introduction to the exciting process of wheel-thrown ceramics. Developed for students with little or no clay experience, this class covers the basic skills at a potter’s wheel. Demonstrations will cover wedging, centering, trimming, and forming shapes such as vases, mugs, and bowls. Students will make up to seven pieces of pottery and will learn the basic decorating and glazing techniques, along with an introduction to kiln firing.

Community Education has partnered with Mille Lacs Driving School to offer Behind the Wheel instruction. Students can be picked up at home, or at school, or another location of their choosing. This registration is to sign up for Behind the Wheel training & receive the Blue Card. Student must have completed the 30 hour classroom portion and have received a copy of the Certificate of Completion before they can register for Behind the Wheel (Certificate of Completion must be provided (uploaded) when signing up). 1. Student has completed 30 hour classroom instruction and received Certificate of Completion 2. Please go online or stop by the Community Education office (open 9-4, Monday - Thursday) to sign up for Behind the Wheel with Mille Lacs Driving School. 3. Please bring in a copy of the Certificate of Completion when registering with Community Ed. 4. Once the student is signed up, Mille Lacs Driving School will contact the student to set up the contract, receive payment and issue the blue card. 5. Take written permit exam at an exam location (must present Blue Card, 2 forms of ID ... typically Certified Copy of Birth Certificate and Social Security Card). The permit exam is $10. Mille Lacs Driving School offers the permit test in Brainerd (Mille Lacs Driving Permit Test Schedule) 6. Go to the DMV to get your Driving Permit, you must bring 2 forms of ID (see above), Blue Card and proof of passing the knowledge permit test. Fee: $29.50 7. Line up Behind the Wheel training with Mille Lacs Driving School (6 hours). It is suggested that students have at least 15 hours of driving with parent before scheduling the first session of Behind the Wheel.

Ski lessons for beginner cross country skiers, sponsored in part by the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club. Equipment provided or bring your own. Dress in layered winter clothing with long, warm socks. Students must wear a hat and gloves or mittens. This class will focus on skills and fundamentals of skiing on the trails around Eagle View Elementary Nature Center. Note: Start dates are "tentative" and will be based on snow cover *Classes canceled due to extreme cold or poor snow conditions will be made up if possible.

Dog Training/Safety Class (Ages 8 & Up) Learn all about man’s best friend, dogs! Even if you don’t own a dog, it’s important to know how to act around them and treat them. We will discuss dog safety and handling, reading body language, caring for them, and more. There will be engaging activities all about dogs. A great class for all ages! A dog will be present at each class.

This driver discount program is taught by a MN Hwy Safety Center trained instructor. This class will explore changes in laws, the latest vehicle technology, and provide you with easy-to-use defensive driving tips. Pre-registration is required (no walk-ins accepted). Participation in this class may provide for insurance discounts.
