MICRO MOSAICS  (Ages 16 & Up)

Using tiny pieces of glass and stone called tesserae, you'll learn how to design and assemble your own intricate work of art. With guidance on color selection, layout, and technique, you'll discover how these small fragments come together to form detailed images with painterly beauty. Whether you choose to create a floral motif or a geometric design, this class will give you hands-on experience with one of the most mesmerizing art forms of the 18th and 19th centuries. Perfect for beginners and seasoned makers alike, you'll leave with a one-of-a-kind micromosaic and a new appreciation for the delicacy of fine art. All supplies included for the project.

Kathy Sanders has had a lifelong interest in the arts and started painting by attending rosemaling classes over 35 years ago. This interest evolved through acrylics and ‘tole’ painting techniques and has now come full circle back to oils. She achieved her certification as a Teacher of Decorative Art (TDA) and has been teaching classes in oil and acrylics for the past twenty plus years. Most recently, she is creating unique handmade artisan glass beads used in jewelry and on her gourd art.

Kathy states: “I find ‘flameworking’ as enthralling as it is challenging. Molten glass is an unforgiving medium and yet, I’m drawn to its beauty. The limited time to shape the glass requires precision and urgency. With the coveted techniques I have learned, I am honing my skills with this enigmatic material. My current work is an intensive explosion of colors and reflects my desire to experiment and explore ideas. And yeah . . . I get to play with fire!”
